The Dreaded Snow Hunter

Has it really been 7 months since we last posted something here? I guess Caleb hasn’t been pestering me enough to get some of his creations photographed and posted to the blog. Today, he pestered me just enough to actually get me to do it.

So, today, we bring you the dreaded Snow Hunter.

Imperial Cruiser (without minifigs!)

Caleb’s favorite Lego creations are always spaceships. And pretty much every spaceship he creates requires a place for a person to sit and control the craft. It’s something that building pre-designed Lego sets has taught him: there are people there for a reason, use them.

I’m completely the opposite. When I create a spaceship, it never has a spot for a minifig to sit. It’s always a completely enclosed model that doesn’t require any noticeable piloting by yellow-skinned Lego-citizens. I think Caleb has picked up on this concept, because last week, he finally created a spaceship with no pilot. And it’s a brilliant miniature model. He called it the Imperial Cruiser.

I love the forward slope and theuse of the grey ball joints as engines. The satellite array on top acting as a dome is a nice touch, as well. It was beautifully and lovingly crafted, and it’s a great example of why I think my son will eventually become a much more skilled brick builder than I ever was.

Couple of outdoor adventure crafts

Today Caleb was in an outdoorsman sort of mood. He created two vehicles that are designed to traverse the rough terrain of our terran planet. The first is a wheeled vehicle called the Dirtmobile. The second is the Treetop Glider, a ship designed to skip across the canopies of a massive forest.

Lenarian Starfighter

Time to show off one of my own creations. Here’s something I built last weekend. Caleb dubbed it the Lenarian Starfighter. It was pieced together using parts from the Aero Booster Exo Force set.

Modified Mars Flyer

Caleb loves to put something together that comes in a pre-designed Lego package, and then modify it to his own design. Sometimes he modifies something significantly (so that you can’t even tell what it was originally), and sometimes he only changes slight aspects.

He’s currently hooked on the Mars Mission series, and in this particular case, he took the Mars Flyer set and made some minor alterations.

Do you love playing with Lego bricks? My oldest son Caleb does. And so do I! In fact, we love it so much we’ve decided to start up a blog where we highlight some of our creations.

Caleb is a fairly prolific brickster, so much of the content will be his (and since he’s only 5, it likely won’t be anything too incredibly revolutionary). But I like to spend a quiet Saturday afternoon sifting through giant plastic bins of Lego pieces just as much as the next person, so I should have something to show off every now and again, myself.
